The Situation Report | May 12, 2025
On May 17 at 9:00am in Foley Square NYC, the 2025 Walk to Cure Arthritis will take place.
Arthritis includes approximately 100 conditions that affect the joints and surrounding tissues and is a leading cause of activities of daily life limitations, disability, chronic pain, and is associated with dispensed opioid prescriptions.
Join the hundreds of participants as they honor the nearly 60 million Americans battling arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation fights for all people who live with the chronic pain of arthritis. They champion life-changing solutions and medical advancements, as well as providing ways for people to connect and break down barriers in healthcare. They offer patient education, and they make sure their patients’ voices are heard in matters that affect their health and well-being.
Arthritis can happen at any age, but the risk of getting arthritis increases as you get older due to loss of muscle mass which is needed for stable joints and falls prevention, and inflammation which may affect your joints as well. Other risk factors include, a family history of arthritis, being overweight or obese, smoking, infections, or joint injuries.
Arthritis can affect the individuals you serve at home and their caregivers. Some people with arthritis can manage through medications at home, and by following their doctor’s care plan in the home. Although, arthritis may play a role in your clients’ ability to open or dispense their medication, or their ability to be mobile and be successful in their activities of daily living. With patients with arthritis or those in the at-risk categories, it’s important to know their limitations and abilities to best serve them to meet their needs.
