Congratulations to HCANYS Doctor of Medicine Graduates!
The Situation Report | May 27, 2025
HCANYS extends association-wide congratulations to “our own” medical student interns who, on Thursday, May 8 were conferred their Doctor of Medicine degrees at Albany Medical College’s 187 Commencement Ceremonies in Saratoga Springs, NY. Cheers to the new MD graduates (as pictured below) Dr. Denveet Singh, MD; Dr. Shayhaan Shaikh, MD; and Dr. Paytra Klein, MD!

Paytra, Shay and Devneet selected HCANYS for their Research Capstone work during their MBA and Leadership in Medicine studies in the joint Union-Clarkson-Albany Medical College program in spring 2021. Their work with HCANYS was truly exceptional, winning accolades both within HCANYS and within Albany Medical College.
Shay and Devneet worked with HCANYS, and an expert clinical workgroup convened by HCANYS from across NYS and the US, to research and develop the pediatric sepsis screening and intervention tool for home care that is now in use in the field.
Paytra worked with HCANYS and clinical staff at Selfhelp Community Services to develop a standardized assessment tool for use by home care providers in determining patient appropriateness and need for the Virtual Senior Center (“VSC”) support, education, socialization and enrichment services made available statewide through Selfhelp.
Earlier, in spring, HCANYS celebrated with Drs. Klein, Shaikh and Singh their “matches” for medical residency where they will proceed in the next steps in their medical careers.
HCANYS sepsis and VSC initiatives were also grant supported at HCANYS by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation and the New York Health Foundation. HCANYS salutes these organizations for their support of HCANYS, for our work with students, and for the initiatives in sepsis and VSC that played a part in the formation of these new physicians.
HCANYS President Al Cardillo said, “On behalf of all of HCANYS, it has been an honor and a privilege to have worked with these extraordinarily talented, brilliant and dedicated individuals, their faculty advisors, and academic institutions, from Union and Clarkson, to Albany Medical College. HCANYS is so proud of them. We are also so pleased for the association and for home care to have been a part of their formation in medicine.”
“As an association, it’s not enough to generically ‘call out’ for physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and aide personnel to take up interest in the home health and hospice fields. HCANYS is privileged and proud to directly step into and actively contribute to the important role of promoting and supporting professional development in this field of the future.”
“Congratulations Devneet, Shay and Paytra! Special cheers to our society’s newest doctors who represent the best in medicine ahead!”
