Congress Postpones Markups Addressing Cuts to Medicaid Programs
The Situation Report | May 5, 2025
As part of the Reconciliation process to reduce spending, consideration of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s portion of the bill has been postponed until next week. Under the Budget Reconciliation plan the House needs to find $850 billion in savings under the jurisdiction of the Energy and Commerce Committee, which includes Medicaid. There is currently a disagreement between congressmembers on Medicaid cuts.
Areas of agreement to date include cutting funding for illegal immigrant care, reducing waste, fraud and abuse, and establishing work requirements for single, able bodied, adults. Some Congressmembers want to make further cuts, which could include reduced FMAP funding, a cap on funding per patient for any further Medicaid expansion, removing the requirement that long term care facilities staff a registered nurse on duty 24 hours a day, and reducing other regulations related to the Affordable Care Act.
HCANYS will continue to keep you updated on the situation and how it would affect home care.
