Heat Emergency and Preparedness Presentation
The Situation Report | June 9, 2025
As the hot summer months approach, it is important to be aware of the effects of heat on patients and the mobile workforce.
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is hosting an important presentation on heat emergency and preparedness. This educational presentation will share information about heat vulnerability on both individual and population levels, symptoms of heat illness to look out for, and strategies to protect yourself and your loved ones during the summer months.
The session also highlights cooling resources at the city and state level to help make cooling infrastructure more accessible.
It is anticipated that attendees will leave the session prepared to make an action plan to keep themselves safe during a heat wave and will know what to look out for to help those around them also stay safe, particularly those are at risk. As a reminder, a list of those considered to be at risk is below.
At Risk Population:
- People who have chronic conditions
- Those who have limited ability or are unable to leave their home
- Adults 60 or older
- Black New Yorkers
- Infants and Children
