NGS Update: 2024 Medicare Cost Report Due Dates

The Situation Report | May 5, 2025

National Government Services (NGS), the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Home Health and Hospices in New York’s Jurisdiction 6 (J6, reminds providers that Medicare Cost Reports ending on December 31, 2024 are due to NGS by June 2, 2025.

NGS mailed reminder letters to all Medicare providers in New York on March 27, 2025 that was addressed to the provider’s default contact listed in NGS’s System Tracking for Audit and Reimbursement (STAR). Providers can identify a different contact to whom and where NGS should direct Audit and Reimbursement matters by providing NGS with the following information: contact name; title (manager or above); phone number; mailing address; and email address. The request must be submitted in writing from an authorized or delegated official (which NGS will verify to the current Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System record).  The request can be emailed to NGS at:This email address is being protected from spambots. NGS strongly encourages early filing of the Medicare Cost Report for the following reasons:

  • Early-filed cost reports that are rejected will receive a grace period to resubmit prior to payments being impacted.
  • Late filed cost report results in issuance of First Past Due letter and implementation of 100% Medicare payment suspension. Payment suspension is released when cost report is submitted and accepted. NGS’s acceptance review process takes up to 30 days, and all cost reports are reviewed on a first-in, first-out basis.

NGS strongly encourages filing of the cost report via the Medicare Cost Report E-filing (MCReF) system. If the Medicare cost report is submitted via MCReF, it Does Not also need to be mailed. The Cost Report submissions cannot be accepted via NGSConnex or email. Alternatively, the Medicare cost report can be mailed to either:
