NYS Budget Slowly Progressing; HCANYS Advocacy Marches On

The Situation Report | April 21, 2025

The State Budget is currently three weeks late. While the State Budget has not passed yet, some reports of progress are coming through suggesting that a final budget could be completed by the end of this month.

Lawmakers headed home on Thursday for the Easter weekend and are expected back tomorrow. Lawmakers passed a budget extender to keep state government funded through Wednesday. In the meantime, legislators and legislative staff continue to work with the Governor’s office toward finalizing the budget. Remaining items of contention are changes to standards for involuntary commitment of mental ill individuals and a potential restriction on wearing face masks.

HCANYS members should continue to make your voices heard on HCANYS 2025-2026 State Budget Priorities for home care providers and programs, hospice, MLTC/PACE, and workforce. Please refer to the grassroots steps and links outlined previously by HCANYS, and keep up the good work!

It is anticipated that more progress will be made on the State Budget over the next several days, with final budget bills possibly being prepared and released for review by the week’s end. As always, HCANYS will keep members closely apprised of all developments; and remember, it is important for HCANYS members to continue advocacy efforts for the home care funding and programmatic priorities outlined in the links above.
