Recorded Webinar Available: The Partnership for Sepsis and Aging (TPSA)
The Situation Report | May 27, 2025
On May 21, The Partnership for Sepsis and Aging (TPSA) held a webinar; the recording and slides are now available for viewing and download.
The webinar detailed an overview of TPSA, available resources, the burden of sepsis, a recap of a recent sepsis awareness messaging campaign, a sepsis story, and Sepsis in the Home: Safeguarding Older Adults Through Early Recognition and Prevention.
Sepsis and Home Care
During this webinar, we heard from Lisa Gorski, MS, RN, HHCNS-BC, CRNI, FAAN, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Editor-in-Chief of Home Healthcare Now. Lisa discussed the impact of sepsis in the older adult population, key factors contributing to increased infection risk, and the critical role of home care providers and patient/family education in preventing infection. Lisa also provided an overview of peer reviewed studies regarding infections in the home care population, as well as implications and challenges related to infection control and sepsis and home care patients. She also detailed home care nursing bag technique, identifying signs and symptoms, and a brief overview of hospital reporting of sepsis and how this affects home care.
A Personal Story
During this webinar we also heard the personal sepsis story from Martha Roherty, the Executive Director of ADvancing States (previously the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities). Martha graciously shared her family’s story of how her husband got sepsis after a medical procedure oversight. She walked us through their journey of his battle with sepsis leading to his passing. She shares her story to raise awareness about sepsis and the importance of speaking up when you think something may be wrong. Sepsis does not just affect those who have it but also has a lasting impact on the person’s family, friends, and other loved ones who need support as well. Visit our partners sepsis families websites to view resources and to learn more about available supports for families; END Sepsis, and Sepsis Alliance.
HCANYS highly encourages the membership to take part in TPSA, watch this most recent webinar, and share the educational resources widely.
