The Latest From DOH – Late March 2025

On March 27, 2025, HCANYS and other associations representing the long-term care continuum met with the state Department of Health (DOH) Office of Aging and Long Term Care (OALTC). The DOH holds meetings with the associations every two weeks to provide updates and give the participants the opportunity to raise any issues.

 

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program Reopens

The Nurse Corps Scholarship Program provides scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum two-year, full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent) at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. 

 

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Applications Available

The Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program (LRP) administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), pays up to 85% of unpaid nursing education debt for qualifying registered nurses (RNs); advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs); and nurse faculty (NF). A technical assistance webinar is scheduled for April 3.

 

DOH Provides Update on Last Capitation Payment in SFY 2025 for MCOs

As established in State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2019, the state Department of Health (DOH) has deferred the final monthly capitation payments to Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to the first business day of the following SFY.  

 

DOH & KPMG to Host 2023 Home Care Medicaid Cost Report Lessons Learned Webinar

During the webinar, DOH and KPMG will be covering lessons learned during the 2023 Cost Report submission and audit process, along with future cost report updates and other relevant information. 

 

Influenza Report - Week Ending March 22, 2025

During the week ending March 22, 2025, influenza activity was categorized as geographically widespread. This is the fifteenth week widespread activity has been reported this season.

 

Join The Partnership for Sepsis and Aging (TPSA)

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA), Sepsis Alliance, the Association on Aging in New York (AgingNY), HCANYS and END SEPSIS on March 25 urged organizations to join The Partnership for Sepsis and Aging (TPSA), a newly formed national coalition that aims to prevent and stop life-threatening sepsis by raising awareness of signs, symptoms and interventions.

 

HCANYS Participates In the Rural Resources Fair in Albany

HCANYS was thrilled to be invited to share our resources, programs, and make connections with others working toward bringing needed healthcare to rural communities.

 

HCA E&R Grant Funded Pilot Site Featured in National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Article

The Jefferson County pilot site was featured in the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians for their success in decreasing unnecessary 911 usage through meeting the health needs of an individual in their home.

 

Integrated Model Care Plan for Behavioral and Mental Health Webinar Recap

The webinar provided an overview of the new Integrated Model Care Plan background, the care plan itself, the appendix of resources and trainings, and a companion point-of-care tool.

 

 

CMS Issues Update on Hospice Claims Processing Manual

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has recently issued a Medlearn Matters (MM) article MM13882, which provides updated guidance regarding non-reportable principal diagnosis codes within Chapter 11 of the Claims Processing Manual: Processing Hospice Claims.
